Accessibility Statement - Thorium Reader for iOS
As a newly released application, Thorium Reader for iOS is still in active development. We plan to release major updates approximately every month until the end of 2026. Our commitment to accessibility is ongoing, and we will continue to improve it with each release.

Our immediate accessibility priorities are:
- Tap to zoom on images, with support for extended descriptions (planned in our 1.3 release)
- Audiobook support (planned in our 1.4 release)
- Additional controls for Read Aloud – Voice selector, speech rate control and sleep timer (planned in our 1.4 release)
- Improved labelling for screen readers (planned in our 1.4 release)
- New engine for Read Aloud – New settings for verbosity and prosody, highlight text during playback with new dedicated controls
- Media Overlays – Enhanced synchronised audio-text presentation
- Voice commands – Support for Siri voice commands and on screen awareness (iOS 27)
Known accessibility issues
We are aware that the current version of Thorium Reader iOS has significant accessibility limitations, particularly for VoiceOver users reading text-based EPUB files. We want to be transparent about these issues:
VoiceOver compatibility
- Continuous reading does not work properly yet with VoiceOver when reading an EPUB or a PDF, we recommend using our Read Aloud feature instead.
- While reading, navigation and controls are not optimally labelled for screen reader users yet.
Read Aloud feature
The current Read Aloud feature is basic and lacks essential controls, further enhancements are planned for our 1.4 releases as well as a major engine overhaul in late 2026 and early 2027.
